Notice of Award for the Japan Soundscape Association Encouragement Prize

Mr. Kentaro Kishi, Representative of K-zone LLC, has been awarded the Japan Soundscape Association Encouragement Prize. The work recognized for this award is the installation piece “Listen to the Sound of Prayer,” presented at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa from February 26 to March 4, 2025.

This work was highly acclaimed as a soundscape piece that crystallizes prayers, memories, and hopes for the future. It achieves this by annually recording and reconfiguring the ship’s horn sounded at Matsushima Town’s port at 2:46 PM on March 11th, the anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake.

・Award Winner’s Comment Kenta Kishi, Representative, K-zone LLC I am deeply honored and sincerely grateful to receive this prestigious award. “Listen to the Sound of Prayer” is an installation realized through the collaborative efforts of all the staff and cast involved in this work. Above all, as it also serves as a record of the time following the Great East Japan Earthquake, I feel this award should truly be dedicated to the people of Matsushima Town who have continued sounding the foghorn every year. Furthermore, this work was delayed for one year due to the Noto Peninsula Earthquake. Thanks to the support of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, Noto, and Ishikawa Prefecture, the work was nurtured, and many exhibits, including the suikinkutsu (water harp), were created. Thank you very much.
